Why Packaging Is Just As Important As The Product
Did you know that at least a third of a consumer’s decision-making is based solely on product packaging? (1)
Packaging is a huge contributing factor when it comes to whether your customer will buy from you or not.
In our eyes, the packaging is JUST as important as the product itself.
It’s what can enable you to sell a $3 product for $30.
Just take one of our coaches, for example. Jay managed to sell a $3.50 product for £69.99… mostly due to the beautiful packaging.
Mastering product packaging is part of mastering product creation. If we want to create amazing and beautiful products, we cannot ignore the importance of packaging.
So let’s take a look at the 6 reasons why packaging is so important…
1. The value of your product increases
Packaging your product in a way that’s beautiful will instantly increase the value of your product.
Let’s say you order a $20 pen online. Website 1 sends the pen in a clear plastic bag. Website 2 sends the pen in a thick white box with the brand name engraved on the lid.
How do they make you feel?
It’s safe to say you’ll be much more excited to try the pen from Website 2 than Website 1!
Packaging increases the perception of value and it’s what will help you sell your products for more.
Here’s a cute example of some essential oils:
2. Increases the profitability of your product
If you can increase the value of your product, you can sell it for more. And that will mean you’ll make more profit too.
Of course, packaging will cost extra but it shouldn’t cost too much more.
What’s important is that the perceived value should go up significantly. That means you’ll be able to sell your product for more and make more money per unit sold.
3. Your customers will enjoy the experience
When people buy products online, the first thing they see when it arrives is the packaging. It’s a bit like a first date; people judge the products they receive through the post as soon as it’s arrived. And if your customer is blown away by its appearance… well, it certainly helps! They’ll want to come back for more!

4. You will stand out from your competition
There are thousands of products on the market vying for your customers’ attention. Especially if you’re sourcing your product from Alibaba or DHGate – to succeed, your brand packaging has to stand out and look different from your competitors.
Make sure you include an image of your packaging along with your product in the main product listing image, as it could be the one thing that differentiates you and attracts shoppers to click on your listing. Then entice them in further with some beautiful product images (of the product and packaging) and you’ll get that all-important sale.

5. The product becomes giftable
People buy gifts that look and feel special. And amazing packaging can add an extra layer of excitement and intrigue when it comes to opening a gift. So make your product giftable by focusing on the packaging.
That will put you in a good place during the busy Christmas period too. If you can capitalize on the hungry Christmas shoppers during the festive season, you’ll make more sales over Christmas… and more sales = more customers = more brand recognition, and most importantly = more revenue!
6. Increases brand reputation
If the value of your product increases and customer satisfaction increases too, it all contributes to increasing your brand reputation too. It will help your customers to remember you. And next time they want to buy something similar, they are more likely to return to your website.

So next time you’re sourcing a product, make sure you give your packaging sufficient thought. How can you package it in a way that will make your customers feel good? Or want to gift it to a friend?
Of course, you’ll need to make sure your product is also amazing. Don’t spend all your focus on the packaging and nothing on the product because the last thing the customer wants is amazing packaging, rubbish product!
